Another method of killing is to dissolve some sort of toxic substance in the water and wait until the cootie screams stop! If you’re too civilized to recognize cootie screams, just follow the directions in the side of the toxic substance package. The recommended “killing” period varies by water temperature but averages about twenty minutes at 70 degrees. The most widely used substance is tetraglycine hydroperiodide and can be found in products such as Polar Pure and Potable Aqua.
